Schematic indicating both standardization of the bison and bear shapes and degrees of abstraction to which an artist could subject it. Musch suggests that once a stylistic template is established in a cultural tradition it continues over long periods of time and the more recognized it is by the artists social group the more likely the artist is to be able to use highly abstract representations that are generally recognizable.
