HK19A and 19B, Har Karkom, Israel, c. 128,000 to 50,000 BP; s) hk19b#7 turning bear

From the white stone circle, in hutfloor, HK19B, artifact #7. Placed on heavy weight paper background. Size: 15 cm. long by 10.5 cm. maximal distances.

Tentative interpretation (James Harrod): Intentionally engraved artifact; zoomorphic; perhaps a bear, turning head to right as it takes a step forward. There is a strip of pressure flaking down the snout (bright highlight in this photo) and a small chip removed possibly to represent the eye. To this viewer, the species is not easily determined. When the figure is rotated to obverse another animal appears (see next photo).
