HK19A and 19B, Har Karkom, Israel, c. 128,000 to 50,000 BP c. greater than 100.000 to 24,000 BP / p) hk19b #6 warthogFrom the white stone circle, in hutfloor, HK19B, artifact #6. Placed on heavy weight paper background for photo. Size: 8.5 cm. high by 3.5 cm. wide, maximal distances. Tentative interpretation (James Harrod): Intentionally engraved artifact; zoomorphic; suid (warthog or wild boar?), facing forward. This piece with natural patterns and intentional flaking appears zoomorphic, but the species not as clear as previous objects. It appears to be a tusked suid of some sort, possibly meant to represent a warthod or wild boar. The small highlighted area about 2/3 down the central line on right might evoke the cheek of a warthog (see next two photos). The flaring out angle at the base of the snout may have been intended to indicate the tusks. Turned upside down 180° the figure suggests a horse, and the same highlighted area becomes the animal's eye. Photo © James Harrod.
