Boukoulian, Netherlands, c. 400,000 BP / i)boukfem6

Boukoul and Iegelpoel (*) artifacts. A full report on the Boukoulian is given in Van Es, J. and Franssen, C.J.H. (1989). Een vroege microkern-traditie van de Peelhorst het Boukoulien. Archaeologische Berichten 19:6-25;93-133. Elst, NL.

Van Es and J.E. Musch interpret these as female figurines and animal heads. Nrs. 1-3 agate. Nrs. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7*, 8, and 9 = female figurines. Nrs. 2, 10, 11 = combination female figurine and head of animal. [A traditional tool classification might call these 'borers'.] Compare to next slide of figurative chalcedony from Boukoul.
