MP Gallery - Warlingham, Surrey, England - Pipe Plateau, High Plateau, and CCC Gully; f) artifactsplateau

Identification (Ron Williams): Mixed flints. Top: zoomorph, possibly a bison, as presented, rotated 90 degrees clockwise, head of bird of prey. Red-brown patinated chert, considered Early Paleolithic, 2 million years old or more. Bottom left, zoomorph, possibly bird head emerging from flake; possibly in Late Acheulian or Middle Paleolithic style, using natural shape of white cortex flint nodule, with a few flakes to make the sculpture. Bottom right, an Upper Paleolithic blade core.

Note: The card reads 'North' Downs, an error; it should read 'South' Downs.
