"Skreblo-like Crescentic Chopper. Bifacial chopper with crescentic or lunate working edge from a depth of 6.8 m in Calico Master Pit II. Centimeter scale. A definitive chopper subtype in Asia, known as a 'skreblo' [=scraper]. Face flaking is partial on one side, general on the other. All cortex removed. The crescentic working edge is battered, though face flake scars and arêtes are pristine, indicating use-wear rather than natural attrition during transport" [Fred E. Budinger Jr., Calico Project Director, Calico Early Man Site, www.calicodig.org].
Palaeoart Interpretation (James Harrod): Based on the images of this object, I tentatively suggest it is a decorated scraper, with zoomorphic shape; figuration resembles a 'bison'. See previous images (k) and (l) for more details on this object. The lighting used for this image seems to show very fine detailed flake removals for the 'bison head', especially at the 'eye' area.
